Kostas Economopoulos, MD

Dr. Economopoulos is Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic Arizona and team orthopedicsurgeon for Arizona State University Athletics and head team physician for the Phoenix Rising FC, aprofessional soccer club. He is also an orthopedic consultant for the Seattle Mariners MLB orginizationwhere he takes primary orthopedic care of all the clubs minor league affiliates and is a former teamorthopedic surgeon for the Arizona Coyotes NHL team. In addition, Dr. E is the head team physician at 2NAIA colleges in Arizona and multiple local high school teams. After completing medical school at theUniversity of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, he completed an orthopedic residency at theUniversity of Arizona College of MedicinePhoenix followed by a sports fellowship at the University ofVirginia and a second sports fellowship with concentration on hip arthroscopy in Melbourne, Australia.He specializes in complex reconstructions of the knee with a focus on ACL reconstruction, meniscalrepair andtransplant, cartilage repair and lower alignment correction with osteotomies. His pracitce alsoincludes hip and shoulder arthroscopy along with UCL reconstruction. In addition to a busy clincalpractice, he has a focus on clinical outcomes research primarily focused on ACL reconstruction, meniscaltear treatment and hip arthroscopy. He also works in conjunction with professors in the Department ofMolecular and Cellular biology at Arizona State University working on a mouse model and studying themolecularmechanism of quadriceps atrophy folloiwng ACL reconstruction. He has published extensivelyand presented his work at national and international meetings.
