Sourav Poddar, MD

Dr. Sourav Poddar is in his 26th year working with the CU athletic program, his 25th with the football program as a team physician and his tenth as the athletic department’s medical director. Poddar is an associate professor in the departments of Family Medicine and Orthopedics at the CU School of Medicine, and sees patients at the CU Sports Medicine Center and UCHealth Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Denver. He serves as the Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine. He has served in leadership roles for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and recently completed a term on the Board of Directors for the AMSSM Foundation. He has also served on the NCAA’s Competitive Safeguards Committee and as Chair of the Pac-12’s Brain Trauma Task Force. He is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine. His specific areas of medical interest include sports-related concussion and special expertise in the management of acute and chronic joint and soft tissue injury, including novel ultrasound-guided diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in the non-operative management of sports medicine injuries. In addition to his busy clinical practice, Poddar is active in grant-funded research with numerous publications in the sports medicine field and speaks regularly at national conferences. He has helped train numerous sports medicine physicians in his career, many who also serve in team physician roles around the country.
